Trouble with defiant lock?

Newbie here. I can consistently pick easier locks like master lock #3 in a minute or two, and manage to consistently open a brinks /w two spools under 30min. I didn't think I would have trouble with a cheap defiant (kwikset i presume?) but it feels like i just can't do anything to it. I can feel each pin going up and setting, but yet the lock doesn't open. If I slowly release tension, I can hear each pin dropping back. I've tried minimum tension and tried high tension. Nothing seems to work. New lock so the key works fine. Any idea what's going on?

Best thing you can do is to carefully take it apart, then reassemble it with only one pin stack. The key pin, driver pin and spring. Practice with just that pin stack. When you can pick it easily, then add a second pin stack. Learn to feel the pins.

There's several things you could be doing wrong, such a as not having set a driver spool pin fully, over setting or too much tension to feel the feedback.

I can't recomend enouh to follow the advice from GWiens2001. I would add as you build up, practice with it pinned up in the front chambers and then the back ones. It will help you get used to working in the back of the keyway before you get into too many pins.Take your time and really learn to feel the feedback and read the pin states with your pick.

The defiant deadbolt I have has a spool in it that gave me trouble in the beginning. You have the key so you should be able get an idea where the pins go, and possible trouble areas like a low then high pin.
You'll get it.
