Kwikset and spool pins?

Postby Aahicnow » 9 Mar 2016 19:23

Do Kwiksets normally contain spool pins? I opened up the kwikset lock that i got from school, and found it had two spool pins in
positions 2 and 4

I was very surprised to find a set of spool pins in a Kwickset myself. A friend was locked out of her house and I spent at least 10 minutes trying to open it because I thought Kwickset didn't use spools. The false set was a slight one and I kept thinking it was a bad lock. To make a short answer long, yes, some Kwicksets have spool pins.

I was not even getting a false set, so when i opened it I was really surprised, I thought the false set is usually a sign of spools

Did you SPP it? you will only get a false set if the other 3 pins are set.

Yes I was trying to spp , I have opened it many times ,I thought it had Reg pins because it did not false set , but some of the pins did feel crunchy if that makes sense

My guess is that Kwickset decided to start putting spool pins in their locks since they probably don't cost much more to produce (maybe even cheaper bc they use less material) and they can put "pick and bump resistant high security features" on the package to make people feel more secure.
I for one am not the best or fastest picker but I do like when a lock has spool pins since it usually stops my coworkers who claim to know how to pick locks but really just rake. I also like how a false set tells me I'm almost done.

I love the feedback of spools, you can tell who needs to be picked and when. Just touching a spool with your pick -- I so love that feeling.
