New Safe - Strange Locking Mechanism

Thank you. I should have searched the forum first - especially since you took so much time to prepare that thread.

I am still not certain about the spindle clearance above or below the drive cam. (Flush, recessed, or slightly above)?

No big deal. That thread was not there first thing this morning.

The spindle should be flush with the drive cam.

Thanks to everyone that contributed. This safe is now done.

The one problem I realized (that I suppose I can fix with a large drill bit) is that the hole in the large rear cover doesn't line up with the change hole in the new lock. Remember, the old change hole was at 6:00 while the new change hole is at the standard 7-7:30.

I wouldn't drill out the change key hole, it helps hold the change key steady

hmmm, that's an interesting side effect.. You could get a step bit from Harbor Freight and with that cover removed and after some measuring, drill a 3/4 inch hole next to the original one, or put a decal over the original hole saying, remove this cover to access change key hole.

this will eat through that cover nicely, always good to start with a pilot hole so it has something to bite into and not dance around.
