Down the path to insanity

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

That's the best way to understand why there are two working combos. I doubt the first wheel has two gates

Cheers :)

I did remove the cover and everything seems to operating correctly .. Of course, I only took a quick look as I rotated the dial.. I may need to spend a little more time with it .. I was just curious if anybody knew off the top of the head what the cause was..
When I finally leave this world.. Will someone please tell my wife what I have REALLY spent on locks ...

I seem to remember seeing kc locks on atm machines that have two gates on one of the three wheels, so a duress combination can be dialled triggering an alarm output if the staff are under duress, don't think I could get pictures of it at the time though.

I have inspected all the wheels and there is only one gate on each of the wheels.. I would suspect wheel slippage or a misaligned change cam but the combination are pretty consistent ..

The duress style lock does have two gates on the third wheel. Rather than dialing the normal number (ie 15) the duress number (ie 25) is dialed. This sets off alarm and there is a gate at that duress number. Have a couple of them stashed away that I picked up on ebay; think one may be a S&G? Duress lock will have a wire coming from the case for alarm

Refer to previous post ... (1) gate on all wheels and no wires..

Since my last post I have disassembled the wheel pack and made sure all the pieces are there (Which they are) and also verified that all the Change Cam are not in the unlocked position .. Everything is as it should be ..

I haven't check on this yet since I am at work today .. But S&G is thinking that the Wheel 1 & 2 are both set to 92 or that the fly between them is stuck.. I will have to check on it when I get home ..

a stuck fly wouldn't account for a 46 number difference, does the lock open no matter what number is set for wheel one, or just open on those two specific numbers? If the fence is long enough to reach wheel 1 and it only has 1 gate, then I would suspect incorrect number of turns either when setting or dialling. Keep us informed :D

I hadn't tried any other number on Wheel #1.. But it will be something I try when I get home.. I will definitely keep everyone posted.

Ok .. I finally made it home and discovered that the lock will open no matter what number you dial the first number to .. Sounds like a stuck Flywheel.. Anyone have any other suggestions..

Don't think a stuck fly would not always make the lock open.

My brain hurts, as does my hand. Too long a day, so can't think of anything. Plus, am not a safe tech.

However, a fly is there so you can dial the same number in either direction. Otherwise, you would need to compensate for the fixed flys to work out the combination in the opposite direction. Essentially, a stuck fly would make the lock work like the old hand-change safe locks.
