Or you can "cheat" and remove the brass cap and remove the pins. Not as much fun as picking it, but a lot quicker. You just have to be careful so you can reuse the cap again, unless you have something to replace it with.

I've also shimmed these same type, but on a master ringed Mogul.

Yep. Haven't stressed it too much, knowing I have two "outs." I've picked this to master five more times since, so looks like shimming's in order :).

I don't always have time to play with locks, but when I do, I'm very happy!

Cheers :)

Two master no3s,
two no140s
and a no570.

All five were given to me because the owner misplaced the keys and didn't want them. Finally found unwanted locks!!
I may try impressioning if I can find Master blanks some time.

This WINKHAUS was much more difficult than it should, and I was unable to pick it open for a week. We played with it at LockCon and neither me nor MrAnybody were able to open it. We got so angry that we split it in half and went back home without getting it open.

I usually got a deep false set and then got stuck. Then suddenly I opened it while I was just feeling the 3 pins I hadn't picked yet. That was really surprising and amazing at the same time.
After that moment I realized how easy it was. I used to push the back pins too deep and probably overset one or two of them. Now I pick it very gently, by setting the first two and then going back slowly and just caressing rather than pushing the back ones with the pick.
Just for the records, I was turning it CCW by pushing the wrench with my thumb. I usually turn CW and push with my index.
Now that I've learned this trick it's super easy. I'm waiting to see MrAnybody's half opened soon!

Cheers :)

picked this corbin after a lot of confidence boosting on my practice lock (however, in the practice lock I always get stuck on the silver spring, no matter the position I set it in. Does someone know why? Is it stronger than the brass, longer one, even if the silver one is shorter? thanks!).

Next step: that heavy VIRO one!

@dontlook brought some euro cylinders back from LockCon... Was my first time picking a euro cylinder using my thumb as tension.

Gday Guys,

Been a while since I posted here, been very slack lately, very busy with some other pursuits. Still picking though :)

This one was a fun pick, medium difficulty, mostly due to the bitting. Picks very similar to the 72/40, as expected, with all spools. Definately a good one when you would like to move up from the beginner locks.

Master No. 40 - 4 Pin

Reasonably Easy. Have another Lockwood branded 5 pin discus I obtained at the same time that I am still yet to open.

Super cool keyway profile on this one. Contains a ball bearing for key control. Big thanks to GWiens for this one!

Lockwood 50MM Laminated

Image
Image

Looks like Lockwood are looking for a slice of the Master No. 3 laminated pie. Feels a little better built than a comparable Master, and comes in cheaper. $9.97AUD (7.59USD)! This lock is also a really good example of being hard to pick due to poor manufature. The whole core can rotate before tension is applied under some sort of spring tension, so its hard to tell how much tension you are really applying once you have pushed through it. This lock also has a tight keyway, and mostly spools for tops. For $9.97 this lock provides a lock of picking resistance.. Its just a shame that its so easily removed by any other means.

Lockwood 270S70 Padlock - The GIGANTOR!

Image

THIS THING IS REALLY MASSIVE, EASILY THE BIGGEST BODY I HAVE EVER SEEN! The core is the same 6 pin core that is used on the all the Lockwood 334s, so 6 of the tall spools (as seen here), but this one also had a difficult bitting, and a super aggressive keyway shutter (the black thing you can see in the picture). I used a regular thickness hook for most pins, levering off the top warding, but to set the shallowest pins I used one of my thins from the bottom warding. Lots of keyway interference when doing this, and also plenty from the shutter, which I found was easiest to leave shut, as anything I used to keep it open got it in the way of picking. The way you see the shutter in the picture is the way I picked it. The shutter has a lot of spring tension, so much in fact that it is hard to insert the key in normal operation. This is really a brutal lock!

Definately worth a pick for anyone who has got one around, quite a challenge!
