What did you pick today?

I used a regular thickness hook for most pins, levering off the top warding, but to set the shallowest pins I used one of my thins from the bottom warding. Lots of keyway interference when doing this, and also plenty from the shutter, which I found was easiest to leave shut, as anything I used to keep it open got it in the way of picking. The way you see the shutter in the picture is the way I picked it. The shutter has a lot of spring tension, so much in fact that it is hard to insert the key in normal operation. This is really a brutal lock!

Thanks for the heads up LPL. I did sneak a peak at your vid before I did my pick, and tried to employ your method. Unfortunately, my lock had a reasonably difficult bitting with a 9 cut at Pos4, and a 7 or so at Pos6, so I had to use a thin and lever off the bottom of the keyway and around the wards, as levering off the middle ward would overset. The wrench I had handy didnt sit flush with the face, so I couldnt lever at the right angle when picking off the bottom. Perhaps I will make a tool with the correct fit the next time I have a crack at it and see how much easier it is

Been playing around with challenging bittings lately. Picked this Schlage 5 pin today, bitted 92929. Spools in positions 2 and 4.

Similar to the bitting I put on my MrWizard challenge lock. High and low alternating, a standard driver pin in #6 and the rest are alternating spool and serrated. I've had to take a break from picking it because it got me pretty frustrated and I realized I was more trying to pry it open than finesse it into submission. Good job Robotnik!!

This is fully pinned. The key isn't the prettiest but I got it zero bitted so I hand filed a key and pinned it.

Its a great day! I finally got the abus 80ti/50 picked this evening!! Only got it once and im not 100% sure what i did. Used a peterson deforrest diamond and a peterson tok wrench. More practice and i cant wait!

7 pin generic SFIC in a WB padlock, picked to control using a Peterson gem and .050 prybar.


I was able to decode the core, have a control key made, and remove the core from another padlock of the same series.

I have an A1 decoding block - just measured the top pins with my digital calipers and used a program made by Phil Domenici to convert the pin lengths into the actual key cuts.
