Where to buy security key pins

Postby Travis85904 » 31 Dec 2016 19:08

Hello, i've been lock picking for about six months now and I'm getting into security pins and for some reason I am only able to find driver security pins on line. I would like to buy some security key pins like the ones that came with my American lock 700. Does anyone know where I can buy these at online?

You wont find any since *most* lock manufactuers do not use them. American Lock padlock serrated key pins are the only common ones out there. You would need to get a whole American Lock pin kit / service kit like this http://m.ebay.com/itm/American-Lock-ASK8-Padlock-Service-Kit-/151246910581 (check with seller to make sure key pins are serrated) or have an account with a locksmith supply house to just get a packet of American Lock serrrated key pins. They wont be the correct diameter to put into other locks though.

I dont know where you live.. and are you a locksmith or registered business? You might have to show some proof before they open an account with you. Look up HL Flake and InterMountain Lock Supply.

Just how many security key pins do you need exaclty? And is this to rekey American Lock padlocks or to put into some other lock brand?

Maybe someone on the forum has some they can sell you a handful, or do you need hundreds of them?

Good luck

Are those keypins actually serrated? Can't tell from the pic. All of the replacement keypins I've ever bought for Master/American have been plain.

Are you specifically looking for pins to suit your American Lock Travis? The reason I ask is because they use .093 diameter pins, which are smaller than the .115 diameter standard used in larger commercial padlocks, and most house locks and such.

If you don't need .093, I purchased a bunch of LAB security pins a time back, and If you are only looking for a few to practice your skills with, I would be more than happy to send some to you. You can see the LAB pins here --> http://www.labpins.com/htm/spool.html. I have both the sizes of the spool they list at the top, the serrated they list below, and another serrated with only 2 serrations that they don't seem to list at all, perhaps discontinued? Can vouch for the quality, and the price was pretty reasonable too. These pins are all .115 diameter, so wont fit American / Master padlocks.

If you're looking for more than a few, I got mine through CLK Supplies here --> http://www.clksupplies.com/collections/ ... d-top-pins. $6.67 for a pack of 100! Jeah!

PM me if you are keen for a small supply.

There are some security pins in there. But those look like door-lock diameter pins, which would not fit into an American padlock. But if you go to a thrift store, you could pick up a cheap used (sometimes even new) deadbolt set. Then you could repin that for a practice lock.

Yup, the fact they are colored is a dead giveaway. It generally means they are from a 'Universal' set, be it LAB, SP or otherwise. 'Universal' sets are .115 diameter, the most common. I have never come across colored Master / American / ABUS small diameter pins, mainly because they only have 10 or so sizes in the bottom pins, rather than the hundred or so you have in a Universal kit. This is in fact why the Universal kits are colored, to help identify between all those different sizes.

I have colored serrated pins in my American/Master Lock key pin kit. The original ones were all brass, but when I ordered refills, they were colored. So they do exist, but they look different, and most of the colors are different as well.

Hahaha, well thanks for shooting that down Gordon ;)

I guess once you have looked at enough pins, you can just see .115, even in an eBay picture.

Sparrows has a "Reload kit" that comes with spool and serrated pins, also some keys, 2 SC1 that have difficult (supposedly) bitting, on SC1 for raking and an SC4 cut with the sixth pin . it also comes with a plug follower and has an options to include pinning tweezers in the lot.
