And that leaves a mile-wide hole for crap door security.

I went to a job last week, and the door literally would have pushed open with little effort, despite the 5 locking points. 4 non-mushroom rollers that were barely hanging on to the frame, and a central latch that didn't. There was no longer key thrown central bolt either. Having a half decent euro in there really didn't help much.

And that is "insurance spec" as it has multiple locking points?!

I agree with you, but what are the insurors going to say - Get a new door for £500-600? Customers regularly baulk at paying less than £100 to get a BS deadlock fitted, do you see them ponying up 4-5 times that much to meet an insurance requirement?

UPVC is very easy to install badly, and I regularly see doors with the plastic protective film and pencil marks from fitting still in place, which need significant adjustment by me to *shut* let alone lock. I also see a significant number of end users who have no idea how to properly lock a UPVC door by cranking the handle - they will simply pull the door shut, effectively leaving it open to anyone with a LB tool or MICA.

Seems like my local council have been making a terrible job of uPvc installs, gearboxes failing after a couple of years due to poor alignment. High quality mechanisms too, with the cheapest and nastiest cylinders- sterling etc.

An Australian maker of multipoint locking systems installed one on the rear door of a shop as required by insurers. The door frame was rubbish but they went ahead with the installation. Shop was burgled via rear door and insurance company successfully sued the installer.
