Dimple pick set?

Postby G-lock » 30 Mar 2017 8:41

Sorry everyone cause im am sure this has been posted before. I tried the search & only read 10 of the 18 pages of hits so i probably missed it.
I've had my goso dimple pick set for a little while now & i hate it. I figured that since i had good luck with there regular pick set that there dimple set would not be to bad either. WRONG! all of the shafts going from the handle to the tip of the pick are .047 thick so its a pita to even get them in a lock. I looked around & could not find much so i wanted to ask if anyone here knows where i can buy a good dimple pick set. I know about using a half diamond & that works very well but sometimes i cant get around warding to set a high pin with my half diamond. I really dont want to sand down the shafts of all these tools or make my own because of the time involved. (Why spend all day working on a $20 pick set) So my question is who makes the best dimple picks that i can buy?

You can sand/file those Goso picks down and they'll work well for you. If you don't mind paying for it, you can get the SpooXe kit - where the handles have been replaced and the picks have been finished nicely. I think BosnianBill did a video on it. I've modified a couple of them, and it's really not too much work.

I should elaborate - I purchased the SpooXe kit and nothing needed to be done to those (they're finished nicely). BosnianBill reviewed those, plus he showed how the Goso picks can be modified with minimal effort. Since there are different warding challenges from different locks, sometimes standard picks won't work and you have to make/modify your own tools, but for most of the locks I've worked with, the Spooxe kit worked well.

Ive been using the souber picks. They are quite a bit cheaper than spooxe. They work great. I did recently order the goso 14pc set, to have a go at making my own spooxe set too.

I will have a look at the spooxe & souber kits. Im gonna keep my goso set to modify later but i want to get a set that doesn't need much if any work to use 1st so i know what to shape & size i need to make them.

I also would like to know if there is a good set out there that's not too expensive. I first bought the Southord set but I'm not a fan of the design because the picks fall out no matter how much the handle is tightened. I have had to put tape around the bottom of the picks so that it would fit more snug. I also ordered two Goso kits in case I messed up modifying them. I wish they included more than one left/right curved flag instead of so many duplicates of the others. I have had success modifying some of them but i'm sure they could be better. Spooxe seems to be the kit of choice but is rather pricey and not based in the US.

The souber kit was easy to find i ordered it from lock picks canada. The spooXe kit i can only find on the spooXe web site. I havent tried to send them a email yet but everything on there site is in German so i cant understand enough to place a order.

In case you didn't know at the top of their home page is a setting to display the site in English.. You can click on a German flag or a British.

Well shoot, after converting the site to english & doing some reading im finally understanding what everyone was trying to tell me. The spooxe kit is nothing but a sanded down & fixed up goso set. So it looks like ill be sanding mine down cause its just to expensive from spooxe.

Yeah, for the difference in cost, finishing the picks yourself and putting different handles on is worth the effort.

It's really not too hard to sand down the Goso picks or to make your own. I've purchased and made many picks, sometimes it takes a number of experiments to find out what works best. My experience has been that home made/modified picks work as well if not better than bought picks. Total cost for the SpooXe picks was 137,20 €, the difference in cost between that and the $ 27.09 CAD Goso picks buys a lot of tools and sandpaper.

I hear you. Goso makes 2 different sets & i think this is the one spooxe uses its $13.88 U.S. shipped from bandgood. Just sand the plastic handles down smooth & the handles would be simular too, i think? Compare this to the $149.50 U.S.+ shipping for the spooxe kit & the difference is drastic. Idk if spooxe ships free but even if they do its a difference of $135.00! Thats alot of picks & sand paper. It would be nice if there was a pick shop on this side of the pond that offered a kit similar for a better price. Your rite about it not being to hard either, i made these in about 1 1/2 hours. Once you do one and get the hang of it the rest are alot easier.

Looks good. How is it working out, picking wise?

Does it stack up to the goso?
