Interesting. So far the wife hasn't let me near any brand new locks. Will have to keep that in mind for the future.

Schlage Primus

Big thanks to tpark for the sale of this lock to me at a more than reasonable price. Between this transaction and our trades, his feedback is 'A+++++++++ great ebayer' from me to anyone thinking of dealing with him. Came to me 0 bitted, so I pinned it and cut the key myself. As you can see the bitting is incredibly tame, and this was as my Blitz and the Primus blanks were very unhappy to meet, and the cutter ripped the first blank in half, where the sidebar cuts meets the rest of the blade. I'm guessing this is a steel key? Either way, bitting is tame, as I didn't dare make any deep cuts and lose the one remaining Primus blank I had, steady as she goes. Also in the photo.. is something else.

Excellent work adi! That modified Peterson looks perfect. I'm happy to see it worked for you.

I've spent the last couple nights working on this lock. It was one of the first Twin's I received and always struggled with it until today. I think now I have the Maximum+, 6000 and Combi left to pick to get through the Twin lineup. I still need to source the Maximum+ if anyone has one they're willing to let go.

ABUS / SKG EC550

Very similar to the MTL 7x7, but with 9 pins, 6 along the top and 3 along the bottom, parallel to one another. Got this from a Polish eBayer, a good score at only $19.97 AUD including the postage from Poland! Thanks hmx24!

Schlage Primus

Another day, another Primus. I like these locks a lot, but with the sidebar rake, they are not particulary hard.

I had a hard time with this lock. I've been working on it for over a week, most of that time was trying to figure out the sidebar and how to rotate the finger pins. When the plug turned it came as a complete surprise. I expected to get a noticeable amount of plug rotation when the sidebar was properly picked but that did not happen. Instead I got little bits of rotation working inbetween the finger pins and regular pins.

Now that this is complete I'm going to start working on the Combi.

The pick is made out of .017". I ran out of .017" material but I have an idea for a different type of pick for the Combi/4800 that would might work a lot better.

Has anyone else noticed that both the Primus keybow, and all of the keybows for ASSA's with finger pins have a little 'W' logo with a circle on them? I know it must have to do with the finger pins themselves and perhaps a stipulation of licencing them, but does anyone know what company it represents? The 'W" logo can be seen in the first picture of greengrows above.

Interesting?

I'm pretty sure it's the trademark of the locks created by Bo Widen. In this Han Fey article regarding the d12 and other ASSA locks it goes into some detail behind trademarking. Here is a link to the article . The information on the logos are on page 5 and 6. It's a really good read if you have the time, I had it saved in my bookmarks and have referenced it multiple times.

Thanks greengrow, cool article, and you are spot on! Bo Widen eh? What about Brian Preddy? He could still be found working in his shop in Sydney until the mid 2000's.

Todays effort

From the top down, a Bilock First Gen, SPPed. Not as difficult as you may think, but definately the only BiLock gen I can open with SPP as yet. Getting more difficult, a BiLock New Gen, raked open with a bogota. More difficult to than SPPing the First Gen. And for color, a Lockwood 334 with Status 6 OS Profile, SPPed.

Killer Gordon!

How did you rate it in terms of security? Did it give you a lot of grief? I found the first couple I picked to be easy, but I have returned to another just lately, and I've got nothing, haven't been able to open it after hours..

I'd say the high end of medium security. Due to the easier access, once you have the tensioning down, they are easier than the Lockwood V7, but harder than MTL.

Think it was made a lot easier since picking it feels exactly like picking one of these Supra locks, which I have been picking a lot lately:

Image

If you are used to picking them, then you will have an easy time picking the Galaxy. You would recognize the feel of moving the sidebar carriages immediately and the required tension is the same. Even the feel of when the sliders in the Supra set correctly and the amount of free play in the sliders when set is the same.

Have four of the Supra locks that came in used cars and got on a kick of picking them a lot so that I could get that kind of lock down solidly. Probably picked them 150-200 times in the last week and a half, not realizing that it was great practice for the Galaxy. So for that reason only, the Galaxy did not give me a lot of grief, aside from the codebar popping up. Did it do that for you, too?

I received this padlock earlier today and decided to take a break from the Combi to work on it.
