Had to cheat a little here due to not having a wishbone tension wrench, so I tensioned via the giant cam you see attached. Have a wishbone on the way, so will revisit when it arrives. Can confirm both drivers and keypins in these locks are lightly serrated to cause them to bind at the shear line. If anyone wants to know how to take one apart, let me know, and Ill try and do a post on it.

I'm brand new, so no laughing
I dont even have a lock pick set yet.
soooo, I watched a video and made me a paperclip pick set (tension & rake)
sitting at my desk, my little locking drawer cabinet was just asking for it, sooo, I locked it, and seriously, a single rake action, it was turning. I was absolutely stunned. locked it again, tried it again, took a few rakes this time. of course I had to go around to all the locking cabinets in my office and do them all. most of them took only a few rakes, one of them took quite a while but i just reset occasionally and kept trying. looking at the key it appears these file cabinet locks are 3-pin. but with my limited knowledge i could be wrong.

Onya DWeb, sounds like you are catching the bug mate, wont be long for you now! Your file cabinet locks are more likely wafer locks than pin tumbler locks, but they could indeed have 3 wafers, though more commonly 4. Best of luck mate, get yourself a cheap picking kit, you wont look back!

Vanlock vending style barrel lock, picked by tensioning with a wishbone inserted into a couple of the deeper pin holes. The wishbone wrench I used was a HPC STW-3. Can recommend as very good value, I paid around $5 AUD!

An ugly master #3, master 140, abus 55/40 and FINALLY...FINALLY for the first time, my American 1100! All smiles when that shackle let go. Still, one of the hardest of the lot is that master #3. Never does the same thing twice. Easy to rake, difficult to SPP. Keyway won't allow TOK tension and the pins click often times just pushing them up with no tension. They overset like crazy and but won't allow anything but the most subtle of tension to open lock. I'm ready to test it under fire with a high powered rifle. HATE that lock.

Thanks Squelchtone. A number #1 hook. Use both Southord and Peterson in .025.

DWeb : You will know real quick what type of lock it is when you get it apart. If you get stuck, post some photos in the beginner forum and I'm sure we all will be able to help you identify it.

ABUS 83/55 Rock w/ MLAA JB Core

Image

Another simple one, a restricted MLAA J Series core. Now succeeded in popularity by the Lockwood Gen6 Series, this was once the most ubiquitous restricted series in Australia, circa the 90's. The second restricted series for the MLAA, right after their first original 'ML1' profile. Fun fact that has been mentioned a few times before, all of the profiles in the J series are fashioned into the letters 'ML' for the MLAA. Take a good look at the core and you will see it in reverse. The J series includes JA, JB, JC, JD and the maison profile, JM.

well, I found a few old master locks, they're black, probably walmart 3 for 15 bucks. I was able to rake them using my set of paperclip picks. I did all 3 of them multiple times each. also have some old locks from 20 years ago that i replaced when i bought my house. was able to rake two of those but not a third, diff keyway profile. sorry dont recall the terms right now. I just couldnt get the paperclip to fit the angle the keyway on the third one.

the master locks are what I believe to be model 141T. (https://www.masterlock.com/personal-use/product/141T).
I've been able to rake them multiple times, and able to SPP them a few times each, that 4th pin is tough to get with a paperclip.
i'm pretty sure i have the binding order down on 1 of them but another one I think i'm getting lucky. havent been able to do the 3rd one yet. I cant SPP the old door locks. those have been in the garage for many years, I may spray some wd in them and let them sit till I get my real picks.

i got my pick set in the mail today.
been SPP'ing these master locks. its certainly different.
on one of them I can 'jiggle' with the worm and open it pretty quickly
I still cant 'feel' the pins like i think i should be able to.
but I am getting the hang of it a bit.
its certainly easy to overset pins.
these are 4 pin locks and there are times I only set 3 pins and they open, i'm thinking i'm setting 2-pins at the same time, like setting 1 while setting 3, since its higher (or viceversa)

You may indeed be setting 2 pins at once DWeb, but it also could be that one of the pins is already at the correct height. You will get the feeling with time, the only thing for this is practice. Try and pick your Masters everyday, until you get them downpat.

A big thanks to InsatiableOne for sending these down to me in a trade :) I've been meaning to get a 1205 for a while, so getting it in trade made my day!

I found a locker room full of locks. I couldn't find a place to fit the tensioner in the combination locks so I skipped those :D
I picked a couple Master #3's, a brinks (looks like a relabeled Master #3)
I ran across an ASUS, which was small, I couldnt get my pick beyond the first pin. I'll give that a go another time with diff pick and tensioner. the Master #3's took only a few seconds (less than 10) each with SPP.
I of course remained undetected, made sure I moved in the shadows.

We don't pick other people locks.

If this is a joke, you got me. Please clarify it for me.
