Czech Lockpicking Championship 2019

Postby femurat » 17 Jun 2019 7:49

Every year, our friends from the Association of Czech Lockpickers, organize an international lockpicking championship for pickers from all over the world!
I've been there in the past and I had a lot of fun. Friendly people, very good pickers and so many nice locks to play with. The championship lasts 3 whole days, on September 13-15, 2019, in Nová Živohošť (45 min by car from Prague). This year, as usual, there will be picking disciplines: cylinders, padlocks, freestyle, blitz. And for the first time there will be also cylinders impressioning and safe opening (both combination and keyed locks).

On their website you can find all the info about the event.

I wish to see you there!

Cheers :)

If anyone has any questions about the championship, I am happy to give additional info. We are hoping it will be the biggest and best locksport event of the year :)

How to get there
Flights from the US: You can easily get to Prague from any US airport in one or two stops with prices starting around 550 USD. Direct flights are available from some airports, but are more expensive. You can also fly to Munich or Vienna from where you can get to Prague cheaply by bus or train, or Berlin, Paris, London, Milan or others, from which you can find cheap flights.
It is advisable to book the intercontinental flights early because the prices are going to rise eventually.

If you are from Europe you have multiple options. If you live in countries nearby, you can also travel by car. You may find people that are interested in going and share the price.I have created a google sheet for carpooling here

From many European cities, you can find some cheap flight. You can try skyscanner.com or PM me, I have a program that can combine low-cost flights when there is no direct connection.

Entry fee, accommodation, food
The championship itself is not very expensive. We are trying to keep the cost at minimum. The entry fee is 20 EUR, so less than 23 USD for the whole competition (3 days).

The cost of simple accommodation is 10 EUR (about 12 USD) per night (there is a possibility of upgrade into a more expensive room for about 30 EUR/night). The food is inexpensive too, you can have 3 meals per day and a few drinks/beers for another 300-400 CZK, so in total it should be around 30 USD per day if you select the basic accommodation.

Competitions
You can read more about the disciplines on the website.
The system of the competitions is such that you will get a chance to open many locks even if you do not advance to the finals. It is a very good system for all skill levels. And of course, there are some nice prices to be won, these are from the last year (there will likely be more this year):
