Detecting A Binding Pin

I have been doing this for a few weeks now and I'm still trying to get the SPP sorted out in my head.

How do you know if a pin is binding?
Is it feed back from the pick or the tension wrench?

I have been practicing on a Sparrows cutaway and I can SPP it when I'm looking at the cutout but when I do it blind I'm not getting anywhere. Some times I'm not even sure what pin I'm on if any.

It's easier to say when a pin is not binding: It's moving freely and feels "springy" when you push it with the pick.

A binding pin resists and moves only with some force, hopefully until it "clicks". (In which case it might be set if it's a standard pin. It it's a spool or something like that, it might be a false set.)

I can be harder to distinguish a binding pin from one that's already set, since that will also resist and not be springy. Sometimes you can push an already set pin as well, which will overset it, and it will not be possible to open the lock unless you can get it back out again. (Which sometimes is possible, or you might simply have to start over again.)
