Open bathroom door with key inside from outside

Postby Olaven » 5 May 2020 14:19

Hi, can anyone help me open this door from the outside?
The kid always find a key and locks it, haha.

Have the kid give you back the key.

hah, wish it was that simple. We need to have a key in the door for adults, but the kid locks it from time to time when we forget to remove the key.
Is there any tool that easily can be used from outside to turn the key?

What about getting a backup key for when that happens?

But the key is inside the lock from the inside, you can see it on one of the pictures. So I need to turn the key that's inside the lock from the outside.

Eh? Look like a fairly standard warded lock. If you've got anything you can get in there to push the actuator, you likely can open it, from "Skeleton" keys on up.

Not sure if this is a dumb idea (or if it would work). If the key is not in a turned position this might work. Most interior doors have a gap under them. Take a piece of paper and slide under the door (leaving enough on your side to still hold on too), push the key out on the lock (use a bent coat hanger, wire, small screwdriver etc.), When the key lands on the paper just put the paper (and the key) back to your side of the door.

What if you simply take the key out of the lock and cut a slot in the end. Then when it is locked, insert a small flat screwdriver into the slot to turn and open the lock.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

wait, so explain it to me like I'm 5 years old, and please realize we do not see what you see so you have to provide more details here.

Is the kid inside the room where the key is right now? where did the kid go? is this your child or some neighborhood kid? is this inside your own house? in a business?

*why* do you need to leave the key in the door all the time, this will just keep happening again.

please provide more details.

Are you from Norway? is this a HABO lock?

Thanks

I like your thinking, Raymond.

The OP thread says it is a bathroom door. So that is why I was wondering why it could not be opened by the child. It raised my eyebrows.

Yes, this will do, cut and make a slot. Or is there any tool that will grip on the "dome" end so that you can turn the key?

{SNIP}

Ok, guys and gals. Bypass is restricted to the advanced forums. People in some areas still rely on these locks for their doors, and we don’t want to jeopardize their safety when they leave keys in the inner lock as a measure of protection.

The OP has been given a very usable option by Raymond which can not be done unless you have the key modified before use.

Locking the thread.
