Fire door mechanism

Trying to understand. These mechanisms are in the fire doors in my area. What’s the point of having a different kind of mechanism in the fire door?

With fire doors at least in the U.S. its the Underwriters Lab rating that matters. It may look different because that lock is one that passed the testing to get the label.
