Help Reading my Wheel Map

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Help Reading my Wheel Map

Postby trilliam708 » 1 Aug 2020 13:08

I am not sure if this is the proper section but the Advanced Safe section requires special access. I apologize if this not the correct area.
---
I know it might not be 100% accurate to the S&G level of standards, but I recently got the safe cracking tutorial kit from Sparrows.
I picked up the whole process quickly as I had done research and watched several videos before I even started saving up for it.
For those who are familiar with the training kit, the "final level" is a standard lever for a typical 3 wheel lock.

I have been able to find the combo 2/5 attempts (I have my wife change the combo for me and record it somewhere).
Below is one of my successful attempts.

However, this time, much like my other 2 failed attempts, I am getting spots where I just can't feel anything on either side. I went through and double-checked these blank spots 1 number at a time also.
On the 2 attempts where I didn't have any blank spots on my wheel map, I got the combo easy.

That being said, would someone be able to look at my map and answer some questions for me?

Mainly:
1. How come with certain combinations, the wheel is easy to read with no blank spots, and other times (like in the picture) there are massive gaps?
2. Could it be because one of the gates on another wheel is there?
3. With what I have mapped so far, it looks like there could be a gate at 7. However, it looks like a gate signature could also be right at where my map goes blank.

Thank you.

No, this is not the advanced section. And until you are authorized, nobody can post an answer or the thread will be moved to the advanced area.

If someone decides to send a PM or email answer, that is up to them.

This section is for dialing to open instructions, what kind of safe is this, and that sort of thing. Not safe manipulation information at this time.

Not being able to answer your questions here I would like to point out that this lock is complete and utter crap. All locks that I know of had their fence riding on the wheel pack even for some ranges outside of the drive cam gate. This doesn't really give a good user experience and it is only one of many, many problems.

I agree, buy an used safe lock on eBay and get a better experience. That lock is not like a true one.
If you get for example a Sargent and Greenleaf 6730, feel free to PM me for help.

Cheers :)

Thank you all for your replies. I will continue working on improving my skills. I guess my next step will be buying some actual S&G hardware.

Like Martin said "All locks that I know of had their fence riding on the wheel pack even for some ranges outside of the drive cam gate"
I'm assuming that means that even when I should be able to feel contact points, I cannot, because the wheel radius is slightly too big.

If that's my understanding, then that at least answers why I am getting no feedback. If I am way wrong, then oh well, I will get better in time. I've been practicing for only a week but I love this stuff. Maybe in time I will have earned my right to that advanced section.

I have heard that Laggards have purposely oblong shaped wheels. If I should get a SG6730, what laggard should I get to start learning those as well?

Thank you all.

The best lock to learn on is an S&G 6730.

Please no tips on manipulation outside of advanced. It is a decision made by the owner of the site.
