Vintage Briggs and Stratton Model 80774 key cutter

Here is a link to some pictures of a pristine version of what I have: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-automotive-key-cutting-1867403151.

I found this on my property and it was all gummed up, didn't move very well and squeaked a lot. I took it all apart and cleaned it up with brake cleaner and then lubricated it up with SFR. I bought a box of 50 SC1 blanks since that is what I use at my house and a set of depth keys so I can originate keys with this key duplicator. I am a newbie user to this cutter and ended up making 10 worthless keys from blanks (I chalk that up to learning experience). I think I have the machine re-calibrated enough so that I can reliably duplicate keys now. I have noticed that my cutter disc appears to make wider cuts than what exist in my depth keys. I'm not sure if this is a sign that the cutter disc is getting dull and needs replacing or not. If it needs replacing I could use some help locating a proper replacement. From my measurements, the cutter is 2.75" diameter, 6mm wide and 1/2" hole in the center for the spindle shaft. I'd also love to hook this up to a motor via a belt. Right now I'm using a drill and spinning the spindle with a 7/8" socket. Any other documentation about this device is also welcome. Info about this old 1930's duplicator is kind of scarce out on the internet.

I have never found any hand-crank machine to cut accurate keys, if you wanna actually cut working keys you'd be better off with a more modern machine

I am able to cut working keys from this machine now that I have the spindle shimmed the right way.

The Bow of the key does need to go to the left in most cases in this key machine. It is possible to switch it around the other way, but for house keys at least, this is the optimal configuration.

Ever cut a working 3rd generation key on it?

I only ever intended to use this for house keys. I'm merely a hobbyist. I'm not a pro locksmith. I would LOVE to get my hands on a HPC 1200CMBX but is just too much $$$ for me right now. I don't ever expect to cut "accurate" keys, merely "working" keys.

Good deal, I recall having to make 10 keys for one of my first customers using the hand-crank 'key machine' my Dad gave me. I spent most of that call hand filing keys after my poorly built hand-crank toy toy messed them all up

I have a pretty accurate antique hand crank machine, not sure where I got it from. It is a model 948 made by Börkey in Germany.

I will admit that on mine initially, there weren't enough shims on the spindle. I actually had to add shims to remove the slop from side to side. Now the slop is barely noticeable.

Some of those old Börkey machines were well made. Have been able to try out two of them, one was hand cranked.
