Problem with homemade electric pick

Postby skold » 7 Dec 2004 19:08

ok this is the problem... the pick is not producing enough vibrating force to vibrate th pins. my pick is based on the southord pick but is run on a 9v battery.

i think that there may be a problem with either the round bit on the end of the motor or the vibrating arm..or both.

In prior posts someone mentioned using an electric razor. So I tried to make one out of one of my old ones. I tried attaching a large, bent, paperclip. However, I didn't get a chance yet to try the new pick on many locks. I don't think there's enough power in the paperclip to vibrate enough. And the two most important parts of the electric pick is the vibrating mechanism and the material used to mount the pick. With an electric razor, the vibrating mechanism is covered. And all you have to do is attach a pick. I am going to try just simply attaching one of my own picks.

Could you please give me some instructions or links to instructions on how to make electric picks out of razors or toothbrushes? Thank you

You'd better learn to use it quick...
It's not the tools that open the lock. It's me.

Skold have you tried turning the pick over and then using it, my hpc one has a hard and soft side so to speak, one side is the spring pressure where as the other side is the motor pressure if that makes sense ?

Find the heavy side on the motor shaft, and add more weight. Sounds like your eccentric is not big enough.
