American 5200 stuck

Postby MStibitz » 14 May 2023 15:41

Just picked a 5200 I bought from Ebay. It's stamped on the back PEE which I assume means it was made in Nov of 2000 ... but ?? It's a steel lock. Anyway just picked it (I have the key also) and closed the shackle and the cylinder is stuck in the open position and the lock is locked. Stuck!! I had a similar situation with a Series 30, in which I picked it, drilled out the retaining rivet so I could re-key it. Once again closed the shackle and altho it has no guts in it, it is permanently locked. The 1/4 of a pie piece is in the wrong position and it will not go back in place at all even with a considerable amount of force. I'm afraid the 5200 may be in the same position. Anybody know how to 'unstick' this .. or is it a paperweight now.

Thanks all

Can we get a pic of the position of the keyway position now?
