That works quite well, actually. My kids had rings of real keys from the time they were about 2. Schlage, Kwikset, Russwin, verious Best keyways. Mis-cuts from my shop that of course didn't go to anything but looked like they did. Better to give them to the kids than throw them in the bin.

Just make sure it is a very strong key ring. Don't want the kids to be taking a single key off the ring and choking on it. Of course, the state of California requires items with brass to state that it is "Known to the state of California to cause Cancer, Birth Defects, Leprosy, Political Extremism, Global Warming, Bicycyle Chains coming off their Gears, Flat Tires, Solar Flares, Socks that won't stay up and, of course, reversal of the Earth's Gravitational Pull Direction. Just another comment about giving keys to children, Square off the tip to make the key less dangerous. That also prevents the kid from pushing them into a lock and breaking it off.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

I'm pretty sure basically everything is "Known to the state of California to cause the end of the world." Even the state of California.
