Unauthorized copies of KESO 8000 Omega 2 keys

Postby bobbysun » 5 Feb 2025 9:08

Hello everyone,

I am an end user and I recently installed Keso 8000 Omega 2 locks in our house.

Unfortunately, due to some misunderstanding with the company that installed the locks, the master key from the new locks was exposed to a large circle of people and was even left outside for over a week where it could have easily been handled by any passerby.

We discussed this with the locksmith who left the key exposed and they told us not to worry, "no one could make a copy because they do not have the owner's certificate and the key is impossible to copy without it". I have my doubts about this.

We do not keep gold, diamonds, Picassos or Van Goghs in our home, but the house is upscale and could attract attention of questionable character.

I would like to know your professional opinion if it is theoretically possible to create an unauthorized copy of the KESO 8000 Omega 2 key with reasonable time / money and labor investment given an imprint or 3D scan of the original key.

Thank you very much!

In principle, anything that was made by man can be remade by another man. Practically speaking, I think your risk is minimal, the number of people who can duplicate even standard pin tumbler keys on their own is quite low, and much less for anything exotic or high security. But given enough time/money/effort/motivation, it is possible.

All that said, if I had just paid a lot of money for someone to install some high end locks on my house, I'd be pretty upset about a security lapse like this. It's not professional, and it sounds to me like the locksmith responsible is trying to hide behind a technicality to avoid rekeying your place. If it was me, I'd be pushing pretty hard on him to make him do that. I am not a professional locksmith, but we have several that hang out on this forum, and I can't imagine any of them saying that leaving a customer's keys lying around in public for an extended period would be acceptable practice...

I would also want to know why it is on a master key system. That master key might be in use at many more places and was intended just for the use of the locksmith in case you lost your key or to rekey the locks.. But, who is to say they could not have let themselves or someone else in any time they wanted to.

Hard to copy - VERY.
