clue, with the types of strip shaped charges available for opening doors, the use of picks is not likely to be about raids, its more likely about getting into a conex container with the officers club booze. In a war zone, all the morality that you learned at home is turned on its head, the leaders lie, and the soldiers are just pawns spent in the officers careers. In about a year, the troops in iraq will start using ballpoint pen on their helmet liners like we did in viet nam, making peace symbols, pictures of shorty, (helmet and boots) and all of that. They will start saying "what can they do to me, send me to iraq?" remember, its a hobby war for a texasmacho chickenhawk with a personal grudge, who will never bomb the iraqis into democracy and dosent even know it. Did mao say "democracy comes from the barrel of a gun"? Let the guy do whatever with his pics, like rumsfeld will do with him.

Heres a quick way to open a door in iraq- use all those WMDs we liberated and protected the world from. that will do the trick.

yes I know the SEALS are navy, I was just saying you dont have to start in the navy. but thats true for anything i guess, like you can be in the marines and transfer to the army. did you know that a marine can transfer to any other branch without having to go through their basic training but if any other branch wants to become a marine they have to go through the training, since the marines is 13 weeks and the others are about half that. but they are all good, i dont care what branch your in or any of that, at least your off your ass making a difference. and does raimundos comment remind anybody else of Full Metal Jacket? that was a great film.

BUDS Basic Underwater Demolition School - the school all SEAL candidates must pass to earn their badge or "Budeweiser"(?!) The British counterpart is the SBS or Special Boat Service, Germany has the Kampfschwimmerkompanie. I'm not suprised that Ryan out ran the SEALs in the Jungle. SEALs are maritime troops, water guys. He could not do the same to Delta or the 7th Special Forces. They are Jungle guys. Politiking is not smiled upon on this site no matter how wrong the whole world is.

hey golpher,
im a ssg in the oregon army national guard my unit got deployed undr operation enduring freedom in mar03 and then remissioned to noible eagle in jul03 and deployed to a chemical weapons depo in the nw.having nothing to do i picked up some lockpicks at a surplus store and learned to pick using only the mit guide for refrence.but i have to say without a mentor,no matter how bright your son is, you cant develop the craft well enough to use for entry during a combat mission.especially with the nature of the environment out there, i mean my hands tremble a bit with a cup of coffee,in a hostile entry senario you would really have to be a pro

however...it is a really fun way to pass the hours when your "hurry up and waiting" i suggest you send him a small set of picks and a kwick set lock and a printed version of the mit guide and see if he likes it.
SLOW DOWN SO YOU CAN SPEED UP!
