Postby cass » 15 Jan 2005 12:52

i was wondering if anyone has heard of this company:ALLROUND SECURITY SYSTEMS LTD based in Rickmansworth.
I was recently sent an application form to fill out with regards to warrant work based down in my area, asking if i would like to work on a sub contract, half days or full days.
Ive come up blank on searching for this company!!! can anyone help?

I have received the same letter Cass and was also wondering about this company's credentials, but it would appear they're legit...

Letters beginning with "Following our telephone conversation" when you've not been involved in one always makes me curious!

Does anyone know how 'fussy' this firm is, i.e. some companies, it would seem, don't mind you occasionally drilling etc. whilst other companies appear to have strict rules regarding destructive entry and changing locks, etc...?

I'm looking to enter this kind of work soon and, obviously, whilst I feel fairly confident in NDE, I don't want to jump straight in with a firm that allows you to change a lock or use a drill once every leap year!

Evored, whilst changing locks isnt encouraged they dont mind the odd one here and there. There are guys doing work who will use the drill on quite a lot of mortice locks(hope Pinkys on holiday!)
Just a couple of things to bear in mind though ,firstly if you do have to change a lock YOU normally have to take the keys back .and secondly as already mentioned by Al in a previous post British Gas are starting to monitor the amount of locks changed so be careful!
We very rarely change a lock but im afraid on the odd occasion weve had to and Nicks fine with that.

Cheers Andy, sounds fair enough. When you say there are guys using the drill on quite a few mortice locks, I take it you mean drilling the case only?!

I'm also aware of the potential problems of returning keys and the warm welcome you'll probably receive a lot of the time, so it's not something you'll be wanting to make a habit of anyway!!!

Evored ,yes i mean drilling the case and lifting levers, ive got a guy who does them for me who wouldnt dream of buying a pin and cam for a 114 when he can put a small hole in and repair.Im not saying this is right but hes been a lockie for about 25 yrs now and hes not going to change and ive never had a complaint so leave it be isay!
I do know of other guys doing warrant work that will take out the bolt stump, trash the lock and drill out all euro cylinders who get a fair bit of work because they are cheap and thats the only thing some companies look at.

Andy, fair play to guys that have been drilling for years, but doesn't your guy realise that, in the end (alright maybe a few years!), the cost of drill bits and wood filler, etc. will be climbing up towards the price of a pin and cam anyway?!
