Hi Varjeal,

I have posted you a PDF file which explains a little more on how the ingersol 10 lever lock works although I would love to see a cut away diagram of it.

It does look like a Bi-Directional Wafer lock but according to the PDF document the Wafer's act on Levers which then allow the lock to turn.

The PDF should be waiting in your intray.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Jlo

A little while back on UK telly - a program illustrating rogue locksmiths had their expert open a Ingersoll SC1 in the time it takes the camera to pan away and pan back.

Got a link to that lock? 15 seconds sounds pretty fast, but I could prep a lock to open within that amount of time pretty easy.

I guess in all that shows the things are prepared. And I don´t mean modified, I just think that people check things (locks or whatever) previously to do the demostration.

Let´s think in Barry "The Key" Wels in H2K conference. He bringed all the material so he knew he could open things easily. Nothing unfair with that, of course. But i doubt he would accept to do the conference if he only bring the lockpicks and someone give him during the show locks he didn´t try to open before.

So I imagine there was some kind of previous preparation (read checking or verification) with that Ingersoll lock in that program, so he knew he could open it.

That tool from Souber Tools relies on you drilling a hole through the door. It is a metal bar with a hinge - once you drill the hole you push the rod in and turn it, the hinged pin drops down behind the lever and you just push it to operate the lever.

I prefer to use my letterbox tool - no need to drill and you can turn thumb turns as well

that ingersoll in the link

I looked at the link for the ingersoll lock, wasn't able to see the key close up, but if that double sided key was asymetrical, I believe like Varjeal, that its a doublesided wafer lock. Incidentally, I just sent a tool for that to romstar, so when he recieves it and wonders what's this, maybe he will see this post. The Mickatic in nassau would know what sort that would be. Yep and you've got a customer who's hacked off that you've just drilled a hole all the way through their door!

Nigels has all kinds of goodies, well worth a look if you are in the area, it's a little while since I was close enough to have a look though :)

Or ask for his catalogue

nigel has some nice pieces, the thumb turn turners work well through the keyway, an excellent little tool.

The Souber tool that you need to drill a hole above the cylinder is only a gloryfide lift drop key.
being a tight northen git I just use 8" of heavy duty sprung steel bent in a n arc to do the same thing. cheap & easy just so long as you drill the hole in the right place.
