I finally got this thing to work! I am currently taking the FB training course and am also actively seeking web adresses for getting tools on the cheap! If anybody knows of anyplaces please let me know.
I am an advid motorcyclist as well as a student of the bluegrass banjo. I am a motorcycle mechanic by trade and part of the reason why I finally decided to bite the bullet and go for the proper training in locksmithing is that currently I have to send the work out when keys are broken off in the locks, or an old bike is purchased with no keys or a customer wants all the locks keyed the same on a bike. There currently is no one doing this work within an hours drive of me, so you do the math, 1.5 hours up to the closest person to drop the box of locks off, 1.5 hours back, another 3 plus hours a week later to pick up the work plus the $40-$75 that he charges to do the work. I feel I can better serve my customers by learning to do it myself.
Sorry for the long post, and if any body else is in the SE Pa. area I would love to hear from you!
Student of Locksmithing and banjo player, so I am always pickin and grinin!

My name is Tom Jones and I was well known in the uk safe industry. I left the trade a good few years ago to take care of my son.
I slowly got back into the business until I had a car crash that put me out again. Well now i'm back, Perhaps not to work in the industry again directly, but I would like to begin work again, at some point, on lock opening techniques.
I once wrote a manual entitled 'Understanding safes and safe opening techniques' I have wrote articles for SAVTA. Taught classes on high security safe opening for the MLA Uk.
I feel I'm not being biased by saying I was once one of the top safe lock openers in the Uk. I designed and built many unique high security lock opening tools; I may have been the first to open a double key locking Tann Diamond with no damage in under 15 minutes. I may have been one of the first to open the grade 1a fitted with the 7g keyway, again no damage.
I have competed in the lockmasters lock manipulation competitions and it would be nice to speak to anyone whom may remember me.
Anyway, going to look forward to reading through some of the topics and trying to get my brain back in gear.

Does anyone know if Benny wells and Martin newton are still working on lock opening? Used to know them well but lost touch over the years.

Martin Newton is still very much in the business, but I will let Pinky talk about the details being that he is in the trade in the UK.

Welcome Tom, i have your understanding safes book and its helped me out on numerous occasions. Is this still out there fpr sale anywhere as i feel many people would benefit from owning a copy.
We have spoken before in the past probably before the car crash i think you were working at Insafe or Ace at the time but i may be mistaken.
Good to hear your back in the trade and im sure you could be a great help to some of us on this site.
Regards Andy

Hi Andy, No the manual was a one off thing done quickly before a class. However, I've been playing with the idea of doing a better, updated version. Now I have decent software it's something I may well start work on.
Your right in what you say about working at ACE, It suited me well at the time as I could work around my sons school hours and yes it was pre car crash.
As I'm not working in 'the trade' at the moment I would be more than happy to pass on any help to validated locksmiths.
