Hey, cool! I think I just experienced what other people experience when I tell them I pick locks for fun. I've never even thought of tying knots as a hobby. :)

Tying knots

Postby The Wanderer » 1 Feb 2005 2:38

I've been learning to tie knots, hitches and their kin for a few years now. I want to learn to sail one day. I thought learning a few knots would come in handy somewhere down the road (or on the ocean).

If you're really interested in learning a few knots etc. DB have a gander at KNOTS: A practical step-by-step guide to tying over 100 knots. by Gordon Perry. (ISBN 1-55285-429-9)
The illustrations in this book are top drawer. Very easy to follow and learn. Most people know only 3 or 4 knots. It's amazing what you can do with a piece of rope, once you know how. It's good fun too.

Sorry . This is not Knot Tying 101. We will now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

This may be a little late in coming however when I was doing a search on this type of lock I hit your forum thread. I have one of these locks with a key. As discussed in the thread once the key is inserted the tumblers are all lined up and you just pull the bar to open and swivel away. It seems like you are on track and i hope you were successful and got possession.
Do you know the age of this type of lock and when it was manufactured?

Welcome to the forum!
Now, that being said...

A LITTLE late?
Holy necro threads Batman!
This thread is almost EIGHT years old!

Just a suggestion, next time you want to ask a question to the original poster of a thread, and the thread is very old, click the poster's username and take a look at his account. It will tell you when they last logged in. In this case, it was about three and a half years ago. I don't think he's around anymore to reply.

This applies to most forums, not just here.
It's generally considered to be good forum etiquette.

So I goes to my email account and low and behold there is a reply on a post I made in 2005. I got a good chuckle out of that.

While I'm here I may as well say hello. Been a while. I think 2009 is the last time I was here. I believe for the same reason. Lot's of the same faces/monikers are still here. SFGOON, Zeke7979 and a host of others.

I still have all my padlocks and picks stashed away in a wooden box, on a shelf in my living room. I take them out from time to time. Picking isn't like riding a bike. At least for me it isn't. It appears to be a skill that needs to be practiced regularly or you tend to lose your "touch".

I disappeared from here after I started online gaming. Those MMO's are the devil. I caught the Guild Wars bug when it came out. Then the WoW bug. Now the Guild Wars 2 bug. They are all starting to feel the same now. I don't get the same "buzz" from playing like I used to....and yet I still play them. <sigh>

Anyway, enough of my moaning about my MMO gaming addiction. This isn't an Gamers Anonymous meeting. It's Lockpicking 101 . BOOYAH! I'll be back the next time one of my mummified posts is resurrected, I guess. Ciao Fellows!
