Hi everybody!
My name is David.
I am 21, and currently a student of Computer Programming and Analysis.
I just got out of the dishwashing business (lol..). My gf has worked the last couple of months in the local locksmith shop, doing bookkeeping, key cutting, setting up jobs and lockouts.
Luckily as well, the store manager is the best friend of my mother.
I quit the dishwashing and after about a week, conveniently enough one of the shop help quit, and I have been working at the store for two weeks now. I do key cutting, some paper work, and am currently being trained in rekeying, and all sorts of other things.
I have been on the road once, as they are training me while I work the shop in the area of locksmithing, and it was fun, though I am not the most social person and it will take a bit until I have to deal with people who expect me to have all the answers.
A fun fact; a week ago we delivered a 650 lb digital safe to a local hotel where the Patriots Owner is staying, for all their valuables, and the locksmiths rekeyed their doors and what not.
Currently I have purchased a Southord pick set, and a book along with it. I have read (and am re-reading) the MIT guide, cause I am determined to get this down pat. I think I have found a new hobby.
Anyways; that is me, HI!

Welcome, all.
A special mention to Augpick for such extensive use of proper punctuation, spelling and grammar, the like of which we don't often see these days.

Found several hits from Google when doing some searches so, thought I'd join.
My family used to own a vending machine company and I was always given the original locks from the machines so they could put in their pre keyed locks. That was when I was around seven. 25 years later I am rekindling my curiosity. I used to install ATM machines and set up combos for people. I still help them out and so I went over to the office and ripped out a combo lock off an old machine. Ilco three wheel. Thought it would be a good place to start with combo locks.
Now in the IT industry, it's a good distraction from the heartless computers I work with. At least I know what's inside a lock (to some degree).
Thanks to all that put together this community.

I never introduced myself here before starting to post annoyingly
I first got introduced to lockpicking in middle school when my father bought me several books from Paladin Press (the infamous publisher of the book "Hitman" which my father also bought for me lol). The lockpicking book he got me is entitled "Secrets of Lockpicking" by Steven Hampton, and taught me the basic workings of the more common types of locks, up to a point. It really was not that good at teaching the actual picking, and not very clear or accurate on several other things I have come to learn.
I began to practice and did not succeed for years of trying and giving up again. Eventually I figured out what I had been doing wrong, or rather, what to do right. Since then I have been playing around with locks off and on and finally found this forum. I am always interested in new information and this place is just great. Cool community and lots of stuff for me to learn. Hopefully I can contribute to what you all are doing.

Hello,
I am new here and I just wanted to take a second and say hi to the LP101 community. I found LP101 by way of www.howstuffworks.com .
I picked up lock picking as a hobby a few years ago, and bought my first pick set (Majestic) at a gun show for 20 dollars (US) last summer. Currently I am working on setting up a practice lock (Faultless deadbolt) that I purchased from Walmart.
A little about me: I live in Missouri and I am interested in working in law enforcement. I plan on attending the Police Academy sometime in the next two years. ( As soon as I can get my mile and a half time down and not want to die after I run. Hehe)
I look forward to posting more often as my skill and knowledge increase.

Hello, great site! I'm considering locksmithing as a hobby and would like to know of any locksmithing schools in BC, in particular , Vancouver Island.

hup, guess I should throw my hat in here.
I've been picking on a hobbyist basis for a couple of years, but very much off and on -- meaning I'd nail a lock or two, get frustrated on another, and give it up for six months I've taken it up more heavily in the past six months or so, though, with the tentative idea of opening a lockout service at some point in the future.
Most of my training is from public sources, especially ye olde internet and great places like this; I've gone through the Locksmithbiz course, though, which was nice.
My other confession: I'm a terrible picker. If some people are just naturally gifted and get the "trick" right away, I'm the opposite. I knew a rock climbing instructer once who said, "Yeah, I'll take new climbers out and show them the basics, and by the end of the day they'll be pulling off moves that I'd have trouble with -- just because they're naturally good at it and I never was. But I loved it, so I worked my tail off." I think that's about my situation. I'll keep slaving away until I can do better than getting lucky.
Anyway, I've long considered this one of top "subject" communities online -- intelligent, mature, and expert in what it does. Glad to be here.

Greetings and welcome to all.
Scotbot: You can check your local colleges, or try correspondence schools, but from what I'm aware of the locksmith program in B.C. has been cancelled. If such is the case the closest one would be in Sherwood Park Alberta. Google Red Deer College Locksmith Program and you should find some info.
