WTF?!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

WTF?!

hey there is a problem with this lock i think. I put my pick in. give it some tension. and push down on the pins. It pops-open. thats kinda wierd. i ended up putting a bobby pin in. and twisting it. even with a little pressure on thE PIins it opens.

When I first started working on picking, I went and bought a few locks. One of them was a very cheap lock from Walmart. RIght out of the package I could open it simply by putting my tension wrench in and applying pressure. No pick required. I still keep it around to demonstrate how poor a cheap lock can be.

Odds are you just got a lock like this one. Time for a better lock. :)

i was going to buy a lock at a dollar store(1$ lock) but when i looked at the key and noticed that the grooves were all the same depth i decided against it.

I'm curious as to why this works? are the pins just really close to the shear line to begin with?

For $1 why don't you just buy it and disect it yourself?

I noticed this problem after constantly trying to pick the same lock. After close analysis of the locks interior I noticed that the shearline had been worn down slightly. Aswell, after constantly practising on the same lock you memorize the feel of the lock. Or it could just be a cheap lock.

I'm using Mountain Security (Kwikset) cylinders (right outta walmart) right now for my practice locks. They seem to be not too cheap, but are not the highest quality stuff ever made. I've had more than a few cheap padlocks I've shimmed with a bobby pin before. Master locks aren't the greatest, but the sheer variety of really cheap BS locks can be stunning.

yea, i know what you mean, after you pick the lock enough its like you just put the pick in and it opens because you allready know the most effecint way to pick that lock with that pin order.

And with the only putting tention on the lock to open it, are you sure the cylinder wasn't around the wrong way?? caus e that would do it... or (and this is more probable) your right, and its just cheap and worthless.
If it doesn't seem to make sence, take a minuite to look at who said it... do you still want to know?

security through obscurity

Postby raimundo » 14 Feb 2005 12:15

like fake video security cams, some locks are only used to put a mystical spell on the person who looks at them, unfortunatly they get scared if someone puts anything in them.
