Hey i'm pompeyboy2 I came across lockpicking on howstuff works website a few months ago and they made it look so easy i thought i would give it a go, so i sent of for some picks and instruction manuals and have mainly been picking padlocks at home since. i figured i would start on padlocks as they're the locks i would prob most likely run into at work where people always think it's funny to go home with the keys!
i got a training board bout a week ago and i'm still trying to pick it without much luck. i use the drawing pin (wall tac?) and elastic band method and always seem to get it to the last pin but it just won't go all the way so i thought i would check on the net for help and came across this fountain of knowledge
i hope that i can find out what i've been doing wrong and learn some new tricks and make a few friends in the process!

I got interested in lockpicking while studying a book by Houdini. I don't believe it's practical to incorporate lockpicking in my magic act, but now it's something I want to learn.

Hi!
I just started with the lockpicking the other day!
I bought two cheap pad-locks and managed to open boith of them the first day!
Several times!
The small one has 4 pins and the big one has 5.
But after opening them like hmm..10 times each, I lost the touch, and since then, I can't do it :(
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and to share my new experience!

Hi all,

I'm registering so I can ask questions of you guys. I'm pretty new to picking. I can do some really basic shim work and pin-tumbler stuff, mainly i do schlage and kwikset door setups, thats what we use at work. At my job, i'm in charge of keys and maintenance, have my own little cheapo keycutter, etc. I'm just starting to get interested in manipulation, so i might have questions about that if its allowed.

Welcome everyone and enjoy but first get yourselves over to the faq section and have a good read through. Most topics have been covered already you just have to find the information, a good way is to download a google toolbar and then you can google the site on its own.

Hey guys, I've been lurking around the site for months meaning to sign up, finally got round to it, been interested in lockpicking for years (used to collect keys etc), bought a set of picks last summer and set about opening all of our suitcase locks and door locks with ease. I'm new to here and fairly new to lockpicking. I've read some stuff about lockpicking and made a crude (but effective) pick and torque wrench and am able to pick the my Masterlock No. 3 but not much else.

I everyone Im very new to this and also very fascinated.I want to know where I can buy a good lockpicking beginer set i seen one on one of these pages in the forums but i cant seem to find it anymore. It was a pocket lockpickset it had a wrench a rake and a couple other tools.I think it was like a five in one set if anyone can guide me to that page again id apreciate it.also is it safe to purchase this online.I live in Illinois and i read somewhere in your forums that its illegal to own this is that true,even if its just for a hobby.I dont know how many locks i have in my possesion now that ive lost the key for and would love to try and pick them open anyway thanks and hi to all...
