on google search for "master combination lock opening" and you will find an article on how to open them but i have to say ive tried it on both of mine and it didnt work! master did say they have fixed this problem and that it wont work for newer locks but you might just have an old one! failing that use a padlock shim, it wont fail you

theres loads of threads on lp101 for cracking master locks, as well as cracking dudley combination locks, but i would guess that each only work for the specific makes, so you couldn't use the master guide on a dudley combo, since this lock doesnt have a make on it, its certainly not a master, i doubt the guide will help to be honest.

Combo locks offer some basic dial, wheel and permutation theory... but things fall apart quickly if you try to compare combo padlocks to most safes.
The place to start is the Matt Blaze document "Safe Cracking for the Computer Scientist"... arm yourself with a display or cut-away version of the lock in question (like an SG67xx series) and have a go at it.
We can discuss this further in the safe / combo forum....

Ah... sorry... okay, well... we will be here.
The points I was trying to make is you don't need to buy a whole safe. Big containers just cost big money to ship. Unless you just need the entire safe/container, you can buy just the lock portion mounted on a small display stand.
eBay (and the buy/sell/trade forum here) is your friend when it comes to getting safe locks at very reasonable prices.

You should try finding correspondences with the combination and the serial number, but you'll need at least 2 locks of the same brand. Some geeks on totse sucessfully found a way with a lock in the same kind of the one you have.

thanks for the tip andrestl, i'll try lubnig it with graphite and see if it helps, but i dont really want to have to drill a hole in it, im trying to keep it in tact, i know the code already, i just want to develop my feel for combo locks as well as picks.
MaaX, thanks for the link, but the lock i bought is cheap and rubbish, there is no serial number on it. its not made by a big make, its just not a very good lock. totse aren't the best people to deal with either by past experience, their lockpicking discussions are usually because they want to break into somewhere or something, not something encouraged at lp101!
thank you for the link though, it was an interesting read
Thanks,

just a quick pointer for everyone who cried shim, many of these cheaper end dial combo padlocks are unshimable, sprug latches cost money you know. it is possible to do these cheap ones by feel. you may be blocking yourself from feeling it properly by knowing the number, try giving it random clockwise turn then raise the shackle and try blindfolded, there's nothing interesting to look at anyway.
a tidy locksmith, picks, up his rubish

i could easily shim it because of how cheap it is and the size of the gap, but it a weird latch, it is released when the code is entered and when you pull the shackle up, the shackle pushes the latch out of the way allowing it to open and when pulled up fully, the latch then springs out again.
i want to be able to try opening it by feel, but it is so stiff and sticks so badly i cant. i think i'll have to buy a second lock the same and see if it has the same problem, then if it does, i'll take one apart and see if i can sort it out.

relationship - I have 2 safes in my home and have found although the safes are of different manufacture, and do have different combinations they both have the same similarities. the second and third numbers are in relation the the first number and these numbers are within 1/3 of the numbers wheel, and also that the excact number can be missed by 1 digit before and one after on the first number, and 2 digits before and after on the second and third numbers.. but then both safes have seen a lot of service and may be worn.
On padlocks in past years I was able to open them by pulling on the shackle and the correct numbers would bind. But this method does not seem to work now as pulling or pushing pressure on the shackle on most lock will bind the numbers wheel. I have seen on totse.com and other internet sites some theory related to opening combination locks but have not tried it. nor have I tried using a stethoscope or sanding the tips of my fingers as seen in old hollywood movies.

i'd love to have a go with a real safe. with my lock you can use that trick of pulling up on the shackle becuase it just binds the wheel you have to turn. the code to it is 0-9-21, there is no link between the 1st and 2nd, but 3 x 9=21, would this mean they are related or is there another relationship i cant see?
