Can anyone tell why? it is clam that the Staddon pick can only open 80% of chubb 114? I have found it to be 100% Maybe i have been lucky. i know that its got its down side, as you can't cut keys to it, and unlike the Falle Pick. it will not act as a key. However the fact remains that i have been able to open all 114 that i have come across to date

i am lucky enough to have both those picks
you mention, i dont know why staddon pick
claims to only open 80%. like you i have had
good success with it. the only difference i have
found is that the staddon pick can open some
114 very quickly. i find the safeventures pick
a better quality tool and like you mentioned it
does have other advantages. but at the end of
the day its the one you can use and prefer that
matters.

Can anyone out ther who uses this pick please let me know if the had a problem and if so do they know what levers were in the lock so i can make one up.

terry staddons pick was the original chubb pick, the picks problem stems not from a pick or lock problem, but from an operator problem , the main problem is when an inexperienced operator or even an experienced operator accidently winds up a No 1 pin inside the lock on a door, its been known to badly jam solid in the door, leaving you no alternative other than to try and snap the pin, which also damages the head.

in the right hands it will open all, and is as good a tool as safeventures, safeventures is better constructed and sturdier, and of course will operate as a key and you can cut keys, and as they are the same price it makes more sense to buy safeventures at present.

terrys pick will open almost every 114 you put in front of it, im not sure though on its success with 114e locks, the safe ventures tool does both types.

no type of lock will give you a 100% pick rate with either tool, which is why terry claims just 85%, the odd lock will catch you out, not always due to lever configuration, but to do with worn parts and levers, jamming levers, poor fitting etc.
on the bench you should have 100% with good condition locks.

if you have a staddon pick, then you have a good tool, commercialy though due to the engineering and the extra functions of the safeventures tool and at the same price , the safeventures tool becomes more commercialy viable.

with the staddon pick its generaly operator error or lock condition that causes problems , not the pick, if a number 1 pin could be prevented from winding up, then it would overcome this.

the staddon pick can open the 114e as i was successful when trying this out however i will add this was in the workshop. thanks for your replys

it should open 114e as spacing and heights remain the same, the only problem that will slow down the job is the plastercine impression if used, unlike the 114 having

no mark = pin 1 or 2
short mark = pin 3 , 4 , or 5
long mark = pin 6 , 7 or 8

the 114e marks up as follows;

short mark = pin 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , or 5
long mark = pin 6 , 7 , or 8

it just takes a little longer.

You do realise these arent hacksaw blade tools and that you need a lathe and milling machine to make them, also this site doesnt display drawings for such tools,

I have Terrys tool and find it spot on its only failed on me once and that was the other day ,an old 114 in a very thick door couldnt get a plasticine read no matter how hard i tried,got in eventually and walked across the room to the meter cupboard and the floor gave way ,was lucky not to end up in the cellar. We dont get paid enough for this lark!!
