This hobby may not be for you, Pel. This isn't a shot at your character or your morals. Heck, I have no idea who you are, or what intentions you may have to begin picking. One thing I can see, however, is that you live in New York.

Carrying picks is illegal in New York. If you get a set, keep them in your home and never take them out. One thing you don't need is to go to jail for practicing a hobby. With that said, Good luck!

Greetings to all. I'm a cop with a police department in northwest AR and have been a picking hobbyist since third grade(17 years). I dig guitars, picking locks, and life in general. Anybody who has questions about law enforcement or classic punk bands please feel free to ask.

I started teaching myself about lock systems about a year ago through videos on the internet and getting a pick set. I enjoying learning the mechanics and the taboo of learning locks in general. I have no interest in breaking any laws and the only times I've opened locks were when they were my own or a friend locked themself out. I haven't gotten to work on ward or tubular locks yet although I have picks for them. I've gotten pretty good using a tapping technique for traditional pin tumbler locks. I've also been able to reveal combinations to 12 gated Master Padlocks. I wouldn't mind learning about other types of keyhole locks and padlocks. Eventually when I have more time and a little extra money I'd like to teach myself safes.

Hi all,

I've just joined this site but have been reading it for some time now due to my interest.

I have been playing with locks for about twenty years just as a hobby and this site is quite interesting.

As close as I come to any real involvement with lock picking/opening is when some one locks there keys in the car. (Golf players nomally).

I came across this great looking site whilst searching for info on how to put the theory into practice.
