ok. first i just want to say that i picked this up strictly as a hobby and i just hit sort of a road bump. i was am staying with my girlfrined and her mom while i am out of college and i was practicing on a door handle around the house. the problem is once i picked it and turned the plug the the whole thing came out. the plug and the hull. now i cant get the hull to stay in because there is a metal piece that is keeping me from turning the hull back into place because it is wedging between some metal. i dont know if anyone can understand this but any help would be great.

Well, the lesson is don't pick locks that you don't own. Now, this lock, Im betting is a wafer? I only know of wafer locks that will pop out, and if it is, your pretty much screwed if a spring flew or the wafers were shifted. Your best bet is to say sorry, and offer to pay for it. And don't go picking locks you don't own.

a) Images can be hosted via a hosting service like http://www.photobucket.comand linked to.

b) I suspect that maybe what has happened here is that you accidently popped the cylinder and face out of the handle. This is possible on knobsets such as the Weiser Beverly line pictured here: http://www.locksonline.co.uk/acatalog/NA580B.jpg

I'm not entirely sure I can explain this but here goes... You can only insert the face and cylinder back into the handle at exactly the right angle (rotationally speaking). Once you find the sweet spot, you will be able to insert the cylinder back flush with the handle but it will only stay after rotating the cylinder back to the upright postition. In other words, insert the cylinder and face plate in as far as you can, rotate the plug to the correct angle where the whole assembly fits in flush, then rotate it to upright and you should be set. I hope I've done an adequate job with this. I could be totally misinterpreting the problem tho.

Good luck!

It almost sounds like you picked the control shear on an IC lock, but WTF would a residence have that sort of setup for? Does the lock look like a figure 8? How strange...

no the core is just a circle. it was pretty simple to pick. i say that because i have only attempted picking locks for the first time and it only took about 30 seconds or something. i dont think it was very technical. it is just like a regular door knob.

Ahh, I can't get enough of him saying rayman was right. Not to be snobish or anything. I know what you mean about those wafers, I almosed poped one outa a computer server box. Then theres this other time I bought a set of locks, picked the wafer in 1.2 seconds, and poped the plug out so it was garbage.
