hey everyone...i'm new to this board, and to lockpicking...i just recieved my first set of tools today, and within about 30 minutes, got my padlock open twice...i look forward to learning more from this site on this facinating subject...

Picking your first lock in 30min or less is pretty good. Mine took several hours. :shock:

Well I have been a member for almost a year now so I think it is time that I posted something. I just returned my last set of basis lessons to Foley Belsaw and am waiting on the High Security lessons. As far as I am concerned Lock Picking 101 and Foley Belsaw should be commended for their devotion in helping the newbie!!!

i guess i'm off to a good start then? lol...the lock was an ABUS #41, using the "small hook" as opposed to the "long hook" pick, if that makes sense to you...unfortuantly after i opened it those 2 times, i can't get it open again...i'm starting to think this is a harder lock than my new one...i'm just happy my first pick came under 30 minutes!

today i picked up a "Task Force" lock from Lowes...i don't know much about it except its made in china, and is 40mm...i got it open about 6-7 times in about 45 minutes...the weird thing is though, sometimes i'll open it once, then open it again in under 2 minutes...then sometimes i'll go for like 15 minutes without getting close...i still need work on "feeling" where the pins are located...and i still cannot come close using the "raking" method...usually i'll just get about 2 pins set...

i have 2 questions...first, why is it when i get a few pins set, then go for more, the first pin (closest to hole) pops back up? it is a security type of thing? and should the first pin always be last?

another question, is the little edge things on the bottom of the ABUS #41 near the keyhole supposed to make it harder to pick? i thought i had read that somewhere, but doesn't seem to hinder my tools at all...thanks

Total time picking locks: 1 hour (just got my 1st set o picks in the mail today from Southord)

Locks Picked in that short about of time:
2 different Sentry fireproof safes with the ball? (3 times each)
1 Defiant Deadbolt with a rake, a “feeler”, and a poker thing (4 times)

I think I’m off to a good start, now comes the question:
Schlage locks: Security pens? Or how do you pick them suckers

I hope to learn a lot about this fun hobby

I worked for a GM car dealership back in the early 70's and the established guys thought it was fun to have the rookie code all the locks for the dealership. Little did they know that I loved every minute of it!!!
So now I am back with a vengence to learn everything I can.

I have come to think.. Wafer locks are very easy to pick with a ball pick

Still being stumped by Schlage locks.

Also a noob tip that can not be stated enough: LITTLE pressure on the wrench

'lo all. New Guy here, having some trouble w/ Schlage lock bought at home depot. Cracked it twice (once w/ hlaf diamond. olnce w/ homemade snap pick or clicker) but have been stymied since. Racking it up to beginners luck, so any tips will be welcome.
