Here in the UK its called a Oil Dip Stick...

That is indeed a dipstick. The unfortunate thing about dipsticks is the vast difference in thicknesses (sp?) available. Unlike sweeper bristles or wiper inserts, which are available in a closely approximate thickness, dipsticks vary from being very flimsy (usually for auto transmissions) to very sturdy (usually engine oil dipsticks...some are made from 3/16" steel rod)

I have various pieces of dipstick material about 15ft behind me, but I'm darn sure I'm not getting out of this chair to measure them. :wink:

Anyone else want to take up this task?

I guess what I'm trying to convey, is that finding the 'correct' dipstick is pretty much pot-luck.

Quick tip though...the auto trans dipsticks are normally pretty close to what we want them for.
Image If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!
