Santos, in areas such as yours where the laws are less than accomodating, it will take a lot of work to get a club up and running, if it proves to be possible at all. I'm not denying that this undertaking may be more trouble than it's worth to some people in some places, but not all areas are as difficult as yours.

In my province, there is no license required to own or posses picks. The laws are typical of the "intent" laws that exist in many places. For this reason, I am able to start a local chapter here and not face any legal or ethical problem. This will not be true in all places. I've some ideas for how we might approach a problem such as yours and still keep everything above board, but I will discuss situations on a one on one basis, as every location will be different.

At least for the U.S., a felony conviction would be a good standard, it is what you would find on most applications for various weapons permits from police departments, as well as general job applications. Misdemeanor convictions generally don't preclude anyone from membership in clubs, etc.

One other point, non-profit doesn't mean that you can't draw a salary, if LSI does take off, you may find it a full-time job

Oh, one other thing, I was trying to get a look at Toools bi-laws (15 pages long!) but I can only find it in German, there may be some useful information in there if someone can get an english copy I'd love to read it.

This is the best I can do with the translator I have. I am aware that there is a gap between Article 19 and 26. This is true in the original text as well.

First, a big thanks to Varjeal, Digital_Blue and Frostbyte (and I am sure, others) for stepping up for the hard work necessary to form LSI!

Second, I am sure you are already brainstorming it, but LSI needs a good logo. Something to stick on letterhead, the web site, T-Shirts & hats (btw http://www.cafepress.com/ = easy fund raising) and that nifty laminated ID card. You might consider recycling some of the ideas on the LP101 T-Shirt toss-around.

Logo is done. I'll post shortly. Also, Member Applications are just waiting on one last little piece of info and they will be done as well. Website should be running within 3 weeks. Member ID Cards are complete and just waiting for all your smiling mugs on them.

I just want to thank you guys who have shown an interest in this project. This has been, and continues to be an exciting endeavor. Please keep the ideas rolling in!

VERY nice logo, and i on the other hand, could get some ppl my age to make ourself a small group. i know 3ppl that woyuld be sure to join, i showed them my uber 1337 skills of picking a 1-pin padlock and they got really excited

but i wonder, what is needed to start a group?
