One of my friends, a beginner in lockpicking (just like me) managed to pick this padlock, Its brand is<<Lion>>, it has like a design of a lion on it, and it says <<hardened>> on the U section of the padlock.
I tried picking the lock afterwards.... i couldnt. Then i asked my friend to do it again... he couldnt.
Any tips on picking padlocks?? this particular one has 5 pins in it.
TY

Picking pin tumbler padlocks is no different to picking pin tumbler doors except you hold the padlock in your hand so yeah... Just read all the material on lockpicking you can and you shall get that hand of it... well not shall WILL get the hang of it just practice and read and you should be picking it in no time. Oh and be patient.

youve probably changed it in some way. which can make the lock easier or harder to pick. i find it usually happens when you are rough with the lock.
lockpicks sure are hip!

It is more likely that your friend was lucky than that you actually changed the lock somehow. It takes a while to develop an accurate feel for when the pins are set. Keep practicing!

Probably just dumb luck. Padlocks are harder because you have to hold the padlock, whereas on a door you don't. If you are having trouble with holding, picking, and putting tension on all at the same time, I suggest that you use a vice to hold the padlock. Put a cloth inbetween the jaws of the vise and the padlock so you don't marr the padlock. Then it should be easier to pick.

yes...but no i find it easier to hold padlocks in my hand and pick them but i guess its preference.
It is most likely a difficult bitting...high-low-high etc.. can be hard to pick

The keyway at my padlocks is too small for my ordinary picks I recived some days ago, so when I pick these locks I still use my safety pin.
The problem is that the tools is too big for these padlocks :S
Is there smaller tools or is it the safety pin that is the smartest way handle this type of small keyways at the padlocks ?
I bought the beginner set at southord, the one with a little book and 4 tools and 1 tension wretch.
Well, how do you do if the keyway is too small?

The pick doesn't fit
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

You can get a pick for pretty much any lock so yes you do,
Have you acidentally bought a usa set as they are a bigger pick than the europe sets, if you have you would be better to just grind them donw a bit until they fit,
Have a go at making some out of hacksaw blades, you will be supprised how easy it is to make them and to make them look nice, make sure you sand them well to deburr them and your away, check out zekes site for templates.

I think rather than me going over old ground just have a search on where to buy picks and you will even get people from near you who have bought them telling how and where (probably),
I take it that you have bought a non eupopean set then?
I would just grind the down instead of buying another set as afterall you wont be able to use them where you live otherwise, give us the number of the set or where you bought them with their order number and we can better advise you, it may not be the picks afterall but we have no way of knowing until you tell us.
