YAY! I picked it!

All of the locks that I've been able to get ahold of so far have been simple wafer locks, but I was able to pick a 4 pin ( PIN! NOT WAFER! YAY!) door lock yesterday, one that I believe had a security pin. I think that because it felt like all pins had set, but the cylinder wasn't turning, so I ever-so-slightly lessened the pressure on my tension wrench... and it made a small snapping sound then rotated!

YAY!!!!!!!!!

Umm, I'm happy.

P.S. I do not know what brand the lock is, it seemed to be a no-name brand.

Well done. :) Did you re-pin the lock or did it come with 4 pins?

It came with 4 pins. See, it was a door knob lock on a door that was sitting on my car-port (not connected to anything... odd? yes.) so I took out the door knob.

I didn't want to take apart the entire knob so i just basically took the half that had the lock with me into my room and picked it. It takes about 10 seconds individual pin picking (without the tension play, that's about 5 seconds itself)
and instant when raking (of course)

Also, the springs are very strong. I don't believe it's been used in quite awhile, so it may be a little rusty.

If you didn't do anything with your pick after you loosened up on the tension, then it was probably just an overset normal pin. Congrats anyways.

nice job :)

I think Stick is correct, it was the first thing that came to mind. Now that you know you can open it, practice with it for awhile picking pin by pin. I was lucky enough to come across 10 ILCO mortise locks, all 6-pin, non-security locks. As the are all keyed differently I just kept picking through them, at first one lock would take days, now, no more than a minute (sometimes 10 minutes sometimes 5 seconds, but I know when I made a mistake and start over much more quickly), single pin picking. I think you get to learn pin patterns. I guess my point is, learn every lock you can by heart and you will begin to see, or more exactly, feel patterns that will pop those locks as if by magic.

p.s. I sent you a tough lock to crack, you should get it soon, if you are unsure about wether you had a security pin, I can assure you the one you are getting has plenty :D

Cracksman, I hate you, in a manly fashion. :) :D
I'm sure I'll pick until my hands are raw with that lock.
