What makes them worth the price, even at a bit pricey, still means they're pretty expensive. Better construction, smaller with tougher metals? The only thing I could think of is incredibly small with construction of tougher metals, say titanium or something.

Well, I saw the stainless steel part, but I still cannot see what makes them so good, unless it is the balance. I am starting to like my paperclips, waiting on shipment to get here, should be here by Friday. (Finally went out and got a Master 3.)

You wouldn't want to make lockpicks out of titanium. The primary advantage of ti is that it's light, not that it's strong.

Wonderful find, JYD. I wish I had a hundred bucks laying around. It'd be a nice upgrade to my current pocket set, I think.

The reason they cost so much is because they look nice and are cool looking. :)

The balance is the issue here. My favorite picks are ones that Ive made using hobby knive handles. The balance is wonderful, and really why I like it so much.

Those picks are way overpriced. I'm looking at them now in my HPC catalog and those guys must be ordering from one site and drop shipping to the customer for an inflated price. I mean, that's 35 bucks per pick! Of course you do get a tension wrench (cheap) and a metal cigar-shaped tube (if you're using the picks, no need for the tube) for "free". For 35 bucks you could wrench the lock off and replace it with one you bought at Home Depot and come out cheaper. I've read the posts here where people want to know how to open this and open that thinking that this forum is full of thieves, but look at the people selling this stuff. They are making out like bandits. I have ordered from Lockpicks.com and they have reasonable prices and fast shipping. If I see something I like and can't get it from HPC, then I will order from them again. Gotta go! My rant for the day.

when I got my teeth cleaned the lady there handed me a small device called a rubber-tip. It is like the picks they use to clean off your teeth by have a rubber-tip at the end instead of metal so you wont hurt yourself somehow. Well i bet you can buy these at like walmart for a couple bucks, its make of aluminum so its light, and its worth your work in filing instead of 100 doller set. but besides the price, looks like a pretty good set.

But, aluminum isn't exactly a good material for picks. Ive made picks using aluminum handles, never aluminum blades though.
