I'm in Panama City. Actually, I do have a question. Has anyone tried to cut a key for a new Toyota (Corolla maybe)? I cut it correctly, but couldn't get the transponder programmed. I checked the book, and it flat out told me "you are wasting your time." Anyone else has a similar problem?

if it is 2003ish or newer, you need to use an ORIGINAL key, not the toy43 ilco key. hope it helps. they cost like 35 dollars at the dealer. and you need a t-code to program it. at least we did!! im in ft. lauderdale, by the way. good luck!

n2oah, most employers dont really like to hire someone as young as 15 years old due to the fact of labor laws against working too many hours, and I believe the law wouldn't allow you to work the machinery inside the locksmith's shop. Your best bet is to learn everything you can and perfect it until you are old enough in your state to really offer something to the employer.

Yeah, I'm using a T-code, and a dealer key, but the T-code can't program it, and the manual way doesn't work either. Like I said, the book we have pretty much said it can't be done. How's business in Ft. Lauderdale these days?

Business is good. I JUST moved from Buffalo, NY to Tamarac, just NW of Ft. Lauderdale like 6 weeks ago, due to my girlfriend getting hired as a high school english teacher. But we service anywhere from Miami to W. Palm Beach. So yeah, its good. But is it hot!
Back to the key, did it give you any prompts that said it wouldnt work? Are you using the correct key from the dealer. There are like 4 DIFFERENT ones that Toyota uses. Im kinda stumped as to why it wouldnt work, other than the wrong key...

I'm pretty sure it's the right key, I had to special order it. We have a book that tells you how to manually program keys without the T-code. The book said that the key couldn't be programmed, I forget if it mentioned anything else. Luckily, the customer just wanted a backup key. Thanks for your help.

If it's an 2005 toyota don't even bother with the manuals. I'm assuming you're talking about the ones that suggest OBP I (usually for the toyotas I've done)
They have been wrong everytime on a 2k5 toyota regardless of the model. We've had to use the t-code.
I don't know why you are unable to get it programmed with the t-code. It sounds like you may have the wrong key, but if you are sure you have the right key, I don't know.
All I can suggest is to make sure you are reading the notes in the actual t-code manual for the model. Sometimes if you just read the screen of the machine it leaves out a said notes, which will screw up the programming. I found that out the hard way.

Heh, as it turns out, the wrong blank was used. It was from the dealer, but it was the wrong key. Fortunately, I wasn't the one trying to program it. I read up on it, and the book said that you couldn't use after-market blanks on this one. Any other cars that you know of that need a dealer key? I think the new Mercedes and Cadillac need one too.

sorry for the sarcasm, but told ya so! everyone makes mistakes, including me (even on this key!). but now you know for next time. some cadillacs, and lexus keys do require factory originals. if you have a t-code book, everything is listed in it.
good luck!
