The bag idea is a very good one. One, I never thought of before!!!
A following plug is a dowel the same diameter as the plug the goes in behind the plug as you pull it out of the cylinder. The idea is to capture the top pins and the springs inside their wells so that you keep them in place during the dis/reassembly.
To put things back together, you'd load the spring and top pin (using tweezers) and advance the plug follower in one pin at a time to hold the previous one in place.
Once all the top pins are in place with the plug follower... you can pin the plug (to the key) and use the plug to carefully push the plug follower out.
Generally, if care is taken, you don't lose/damage the pins or springs. A bit late now... but... handy info for the future.
