A couple of cool keys

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

A couple of cool keys

Postby GWiens2001 » 2 Jun 2013 14:11

A friend at church is a retired locksmith. He got rid of most of his locks, keys and tools a few years ago. However, today he gave me a few keys he still had. Very nice of him!

One time clock key, 4 master key blanks, and a novelty plastic key:

The novelty key is a knifeThe large key on the chain is for the lock in this picture:

I'll be tossing the time clock key in my unusual or cool keys collection.

Why do you refer to the 4 cylinder removal blanks
as master key blanks??

That was his term, not mine. As you point out, they are control key blanks. They even say so right on them.

Gordon:

The Amano DETEX Station "key" is more of a key shaped stamp than an actual key...

The key you have has an embossed number on the "bitting" of the key near the tip which records on a time indexed paper inside the DETEX clock...

The other type of "key" for the Amano DETEX clock actually allows the supervisor to open the clock to refresh the recording medium and file the proof of the rounds being completed the previous day in the post activity log...

Evan,

Thank you. I just noticed that about 20 minutes ago while looking to see what one of those locks/watchman clocks cost. Holy cowflop, not going to be adding that lock to my collection.
