Greyman, not saying you're wrong, but I can't help but notice that you said that you don't mind telling the public how cars can be broken into, because the criminal scene already knows how to use slim jims and jigglers.

Now, apart from the amazing amount of hits that this page must already have had because of Google (which is making the entire point of this thread useless), i'm wondering: how can you say that when a broken window is one of the characteristics of a break in?

The junkies that wanted my parents stereo and candies did not use jigglers, however easy they are to make and use. They bashed the window.

I wonder what your opinion is on this.

Yours,

Jordy

Car breaking info

Postby greyman » 28 Jun 2006 6:43

jordyh, I'm not sure what you're saying. Did I say that I thought it was a good idea to tell people how to break into cars? I hope not. What I was trying to say was that for many years cars were so easy to break into that you could only conclude that 1) people didn't give a stuff if their cars were stolen or 2) the car companies had some deal going with the insurance companies. I don't think (1) is right, so...

As far as car locks go, I can see there is no apparent point in making them more secure since it's so easy to break the car window. I guess it was done like it was because it resulted in cheaper production costs. Really, the same argument goes for cheap house locks - it's still very easy to get in through a window, especially if left unlocked. I think that people should be told about weaknesses so they can decide if they want to spend more to get a better product. Same goes for the Windows operating system (here goes a can of worms :) ). I'm not saying however that detailed instructions about the bypass should be given, but when it's something as easy as a bump key, you have to wonder if you're really just helping thieves by not telling people. A bit of scrutiny is not a bad thing.

Yeah, i guess you've got me there.
I find this a touchy subject alltogether.
Good luck with debating what's right and wrong, y'all.

More and more vehicles are being fitted with anti smash film on the windows both after market and from factory,

Theives may know how to break into cars but they learn somewhere and i fail to see why we should teach the new up and coming kids how to do it,
