jordyh, I'm not sure what you're saying. Did I say that I thought it was a good idea to tell people how to break into cars? I hope not. What I was trying to say was that for many years cars were so easy to break into that you could only conclude that 1) people didn't give a stuff if their cars were stolen or 2) the car companies had some deal going with the insurance companies. I don't think (1) is right, so...
As far as car locks go, I can see there is no apparent point in making them more secure since it's so easy to break the car window. I guess it was done like it was because it resulted in cheaper production costs. Really, the same argument goes for cheap house locks - it's still very easy to get in through a window, especially if left unlocked. I think that people should be told about weaknesses so they can decide if they want to spend more to get a better product. Same goes for the Windows operating system (here goes a can of worms
). I'm not saying however that detailed instructions about the bypass should be given, but when it's something as easy as a bump key, you have to wonder if you're really just helping thieves by not telling people. A bit of scrutiny is not a bad thing.
