Some locks are very easy to pick in reverse, but nearly impossible to pick in the unlocked direction. Some locks are very easy to pick in the unlocked direction and nearly impossible to pick in reverse.

A tool called a plug spinner was created to combat this. When you come across a lock that picks eaily in the locked direction, you pick it, then insert the plug spinner and trigger it. It then spins the plug quickly enough past the pin chambers that the pins can't reset and viola! Your lock is now unlocked.

I don't know if lock manufacturers purposely do this, but I'm sure it would be possible to set the tollerences more specifically in the unlocked direction. What I mean is when making the pin holes, line them all up so that they all bind at as close to the same time as possible in the unlocked direction, and not care as much if the locked direction is so secure.

Just my 2 cents.

pinsetter as right, some locks turn easyar in one direction than in the other but not always in closing direction. some locks are easier to pick inside because some locks dont have same security level inside then outside. only jail locks are harder to pick from inside :p

my two back doors are the exact same...but my front door is different and it still does this...thats why i thought it was like that for all locks

as for this....is it perhaps possible just to spin it fast enough with your tension wrench without the pins resetting?

cormier: That typically won't work. You can't spin it fast enough to keep the top pins from falling back down.
