Recently I've purchased a Kaba dimple lock. I tried picking it and something quite odd happenend. The cylinder turned, as if it was pick, however it will not turn all the way, it turns about 1/4 of a turn. I also cannot get it back into the locked position. Any advice, solutions, ideas, or theories anyone has would be greatly apprecaited. Thank you.

Pick it again in the same direction... Although I am not sure which Kaba you have... some locks (including tubular locks) will require multiple picking to get the cylinder through all the possible positions.

I looked inside the lock with a bright light, and did notice that the springs have entered the cylinder. After researching through other sources, I have found that when picking these locks you must block the bottom of the keyway so the pins cannot enter the cylinder through the bottom. The person who I bought the lock, is going to send another for free, and I'll be sure not to make that mistake again.

I did the exact same thing on the exact same lock. I wonder if we bought them from the same person? Get it off of ladyeite on ebay by any chance?

Yes I did. Did she send you a new one as well? Anyways after doing some research turnes out if you don't put a half key in the after picking it, the pins pop out into the cylinder, so I do not believe it was the ebay seller's fault, but the fault of the manufacturer. I was surprised, however, on how easily picked my lock was.

No, she didn't send me a new one, as soon as I did it I knew what happened and knew it was my fault. I don't know if I would really consider that to be a fault of Kaba considering that right away the owner of the lock would know if it was tampered with if one of the drivers/springs fell into the keyway. I was also surprised by how easy it was to pick, I only got to do it once because I sheared off one of the springs trying to get the lock working again but, the one time I did pick it, it was my first experience with a Kaba lock and it took at most 1.5 minutes to inspect the lock, come up with a plan of attack, and open it.

Is this the kaba with 3 rows of pins, or just one?

(also to Wolf): which pickset did you use for it? The Souber Tools dimple set? An other Dimple set? Or a normal hook or even rakes?

I used a normal hook pick and tension wrench. I found that just by tapping the side pins, I could set them pretty easily.

First I tried the dimple tools in the Navigator pick set, I couldn't feel the pick engaging the pins very well so I switched over to a small hook, I set most of the pins with the small hook in a short amount of time and it felt like it was picked but, it still wouldn't turn so I gently raked all the pins with a Rytan mini blue diamond and presto.
