Yale US32D Assa Abloy all spool pins

WHOHOO, I did it! My first spool pins.

This Yale lock is wonderful to practice on. It is very easy to switch out some pins if you wish, just by popping off the little cover on top of the pin chamber.

Background story:
Today I finally found a shop in Bangkok with a proper selection of locks for decent prices. I blindly filled my basket with all kinds of locks, the total was 1800 THB (~50 USD), not bad. The "Sure Loc" took longer to unpack than to pick it, but the Yale locks, that where actually cheaper than the "sure loc", are fun to pick. The other two are dimple locks that I haven't unpacked yet, a Thai made RMI DB-98-AC and SOLEX E5900 SS. I never picked a dimple lock so that will be the next challenge when I am more comfortable with the spool pins in the Yale locks.

And just opened the lock two more times in a row. Now I am more used to the (somewhat restricted) keyway of this lock, kinda turning the pick while pushing a pin up and the tension needed for spool pins it's actually much easier than I imagined. By the way, I always thought you needed at least one normal pin to prevent the key form getting stuck, but this lock has all spool pins... :?:

Hope i can find some serrated pins in one of those cheap locks.

Congratulations!

The first spooled locks can be a nightmare at the begining, but soon you realise they are actually easy! Very nice job!

Actually, although it should have at least 1 normal driver, it doesn't mean the key WILL get stuck. But it can happen. As the pins are in constant movement while the key is being inserted or removed, it is safe to assume that AT LEAST one of the lower edges of the spool (the large part on the bottom) is high enough to prevent a "false rotation" and ruining something. But it is possible and it's best to have at least one regular driver of course

Keep up the good work!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.
