information on old Briggs & Stratton Side Bar Wafer Locks

Looking to gain information on old Briggs & Stratton Side Bar Wafer Locks.

I bought a 1937 Cadillac LaSalle that came without any keys and all of the compartments are locked. The previous owner had died and no one knew where they were. I am disassembling the car in preparation for a repaint and need to open the trunk and rumble seat deck lid which are not accessible from the rear.

I was able to remove the passenger door handle and read the factory 4 digit code stamped on the shaft. I decoded it using a Curtis 1938 Key Code book and made a key using an old Curtis hand held post key punch. The key worked for the door and ignition, but not the glove box or the trunk.

I live too far out of town, for the locksmith to come out to my place and hand make the remaining keys, so I thought this might be the place to figure out how to open them and then I could take them to a locksmith and be re-keyed.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to help you, but it sounds like you're handy enough to figure this out on your own if you already have things like a Curtis clipper. I would recommend finding a group on Facebook that talks about the year and model car you bought, someone may be able to share what they did to get their locks done.

Locking this topic, best of luck with your project, sorry we could not help.
