Looking to gain information on old Briggs & Stratton Side Bar Wafer Locks.
I bought a 1937 Cadillac LaSalle that came without any keys and all of the compartments are locked. The previous owner had died and no one knew where they were. I am disassembling the car in preparation for a repaint and need to open the trunk and rumble seat deck lid which are not accessible from the rear.
I was able to remove the passenger door handle and read the factory 4 digit code stamped on the shaft. I decoded it using a Curtis 1938 Key Code book and made a key using an old Curtis hand held post key punch. The key worked for the door and ignition, but not the glove box or the trunk.
I live too far out of town, for the locksmith to come out to my place and hand make the remaining keys, so I thought this might be the place to figure out how to open them and then I could take them to a locksmith and be re-keyed.
