Yes they are in fact homemade.
Good work there. As stated, give them a good sanding working your way up from 400 to 600 then 800, etc. You want to get them as smooth as possible. That way they glide through the lock and give you much better feedback than even commercial picks.
For reference on how smooth you need to get, take a look around the forums and find some pictures of the picks made by raimundo, kaotik, or lowknewbie21. They all make some of the finest home brew picks that money can buy. There are many others on the site that make very high quality picks also but naming them all would turn this into a very long post.
